Arm Lift 101: Brachioplasty
Who doesn’t like youthful toned arms to show off when wearing swimsuits or sleeveless outfits?
A brachioplasty, also known as an arm lift, is a surgical process that helps you to live those toned look dreams.
If you are just tired of that excess fat or you need to fix that stubborn loose skin on the back of your arms, getting an arm lift might be the best option for you.
Have you recently lost weight? After excessive weight loss, experiencing flaps of skin hanging from your arms is normal and is something you can fix with a brachioplasty procedure.
Looking to make an informed decision? Here is all you need to know about how the process works and all that arm lift recovery entails.
What to Expect During Your Arm Lift
Preparing for an arm lift surgery becomes challenging when you don’t know what it will be like.
Firstly, and in order to prevent complications during the procedure and avoid post-operative issues, your surgeon will run some tests.
You will be placed under general anesthesia during your brachioplasty and your surgeon will begin by making an incision and will then proceed to remove fat. While you will likely have a permanent scar, our expert surgeons are trained to minimize the arm lift scar by placing the incision in hidden areas; the scarring should be minimal.
The procedure takes two to three hours and you can discuss all your concerns during a personal consultation.
You will be advised to stop taking, or will be asked to avoid, certain supplements and medicines before the surgery. You can expect to begin light activity within a few days of your arm lift however, give yourself plenty of time to heal after the procedure. Avoid putting any unnecessary stress on your arm.
Recovery Tips for the Best Outcome
After a brachioplasty it is normal to experience mild to moderate discomfort and bruising. You will most likely feel it for at least three days following the surgery. Within one week most patients return to work and normal daily activities. However, you should avoid working out and lifting heavy objects during the arm lift recovery process.
Patients will be asked to wear a compression garment to support natural healing and reduce fluid accumulation. Also following the surgery, you will meet your surgeon for regular follow-ups; your wound dressings will be changed during these visits.
For the first two weeks, restrict your arm movement and keep your activities limited. Your surgeon will guide you along the best recovery plan working with you to minimize the risk of infection; keeping the wound dry will help.
You will be able to easily manage pain with prescribed pain medication.
Is This the Right Procedure for Me?
An arm lift is a popular cosmetic surgery that provides successful results. If you maintain your weight, the results of an arm lift are long-lasting. You may see some initial results shortly after the surgery however, the majority of the impact will be temporarily hidden under the swelling. That said, roughly six (or so) weeks after the surgery most of the swelling will subside, and you will be able to see the results.
The results are permanent; yours to enjoy and be proud of for years. A stable weight and healthy lifestyle will ensure a lasting impact, will improve your comfort, mobility and, perhaps most importantly, your self-esteem.
